Clementine Cooper is a sous chef at a popular vegan restaurant. Her career is sabotaged by a disgruntled co-worker on a night that a food critic visits the restaurant. In the wake of the evening’s fiasco, the head chef fires Clementine and she is blackballed at every vegan restaurant and food truck in the Santa Monica area.
Unable to find work, Clementine opens Skinny Bitch cooking school. She meets Zach Jeffries when he erects a steer’s head directly across from the apartment on the first night of her cooking class. Clementine finds Zach attractive even though he’s a carnivore. Of course Zach finds Clem equally attractive and interesting.
Could they make a relationship work with such differences?
I actually enjoyed this book. It is an easy read and I completed it within a few days. I find that that Clementine has a good group of friends, if not a bit cliche: a fat roommate friend who wants to lose weight, the gay friend, and the well-meaning ex-boyfriend, who makes a brief appearance, is Clementine’s first client.
The book does get a preachy on the virtues of vegan life. Even with that, I would recommend this book for a beach read. It’s quick, fun, and light.
